Learning from Setback
Our Reflection
This year, our club’s energy reached a new high. We successfully spread the word about FLL and grew our team by two new members. With several seasons of experience now under our belts, we felt more confident than ever, refining our robot design and launching a truly innovative Project: the Vortex Induced Electricity Generator. We spent months diving deep into the science of power generation, exploring creative ways to harvest energy from the world around us.
At the Regional, we pulled out our best performance, earning the highest score on robot games and receiving high praise for our project in the judging room. We were certain we were moving on.
Then, in a heartbeat, the competition took a sudden and staggering turn: due to an earlier miscommunication between the team and the referees, we were told that we would not advance to the next level despite our top-tier performance. This happened just moments before the Award Ceremony, and all of us were shocked!
However, after the dust settled, instead of letting the disappointment pull us apart, we gathered with our coaches and parents for a heart-to-heart discussion about the setback. We realized that even the toughest mistakes are opportunities to grow. With a renewed sense of purpose, every member resolved to spend the off-season training and sharpening our skills. We aren't just coming back next year; we’re coming back stronger!
Coach's Note:
We are deeply grateful to our wonderful parents, on behalf of the entire team! Before our season wrap-up meeting with the kids, the parents gathered to discuss how we could turn this setback into a truly valuable life lesson for our kids. The parents of our new members were especially supportive and understanding, even though the outcome was a big shift from their initial expectations. Their encouragement and perspective helped us all focus on growth, resilience, and the bigger picture of what we achieve together.
